David Miller (1865 – 1919)

David  (known as Dave) the tenth child of Peter and Janet Miller was born at Braeside in 1865. A list of all children in the family is here.

Dave never married. He lived and worked at Braeside all of his life with his father and brother Edward.

In 1905, prior to the death of their father, Sections 105, 106, 114, 118 and 127 were transferred to Edward and Dave. Prior to Edward’s marriage in 1915 they split their joint holdings with Dave taking sections 105, 114 and 118 and Edward taking sections 106, 111 and 127.

In Jack Miller’s diaries there is reference to Jack shearing for Uncle Dave and doing blacksmith work for him at Braeside.

Dave was a Special Constable South Rhine District Council from 1897.

Dave was talking to young Margaret Millyard on her way home from Springton. He fell at the feet of her pony and was dead before she could dismount. (Margaret Millyard went on to marry Peter Leslie Miller, David’s nephew.)

David Miller died on the 22 April 1919* aged 54 years and is buried with his parents in the South Rhine Cemetery.

*On the headstone it is stated that David’s date of death was the 23 April but in Jack Miller’s diaries he recorded that David passed away on the 22 April 1919.
