Every year the Church celebrated its anniversary in August, close to the date when the foundation stone for the school building was laid in 1864. In association with the Sunday service a tea meeting was held on the Monday. This was followed by a concert and musical evening. Many former residents as well as friends and family members returned for the anniversary weekend to swell the congregation. The tea meeting was also widely attended by others from the Springton and Eden Valley districts.
The men gathered around a huge fire in the old building at the back. The kerosene stoves and lights were lit in the Sunday school building and the table in the main room of the Sunday school would be laden with delicious homemade fare. Several sittings and replenishments of the tables were needed to cater for the crowd. The food and fellowship on this winter’s night combined to make this a very special experience. Anniversary tea meetings continued for over a 100 years until the 1980s.
