Reginald Forrest known as “Reg”, only child of Jack and Nell Miller was born at Mt Pleasant on the 11 February 1916 and lived all of his life at Sanderston. Reg attended school at Sanderston, riding his pony there from the age of 7 years. He would sometimes ride to Hilton Heath to visit his Aunt Fan after school.
From an early age Reg helped his father with the farm work, even driving stock to Craggy Lea on horseback.
Reg married Edna Mavis Lintern at St Matthews Church at Marryatville on the 5 August 1939. Edna was born in Sydney NSW on 12 December 1915 to parents Thomas and Lily Lintern who had moved to Norwood SA. They moved into the home at Sanderston as Jack and Nell had moved to The Rockery just prior to Reg’s marriage.
Reg and Edna had two children, sons Malcolm born in 1940 and Lester (1946).
Reg saw great changes in agricultural methods during his lifetime, starting with horses, then a small tractor and progressively larger ones, lumping bagged grain onto wagons through to bulk handling of grain with augers and tip trucks. He had witnessed the introduction of medic based legume pastures which led to higher yielding crops and better soil structure which would ultimately lead to more
sustainable management practices.
Reg was able to add to his property with the purchase of adjoining and nearby Sections 89, 208 and 258 in the Hundred of Angas as well as Sections 145, 146 and 147 in the Hundred of Ridley.
Reg was involved in the Marne Council (now Mid Murray Council) for 16 years, being Chairman for
5 years from 1966 – 1971. He was on the Executive of the Local Government Association and the
Murray Valley Development League. He was also on the Murray Plains District Soil Conservation Board and Chairman for a period of time.
Reg was involved in numerous other community activities including the Cambrai School, Cambrai Sports Club, the Cambrai Institute and the Liberal Party. Reg was also involved with Motor Gymkhanas at Sanderston with his brother-in-law Cliff Lintern, the first being held in September 1960 to raise money for a community hall.

Edna was involved in the Cambrai and then Black Hill CWA, the Sanderston Ladies Guild, the Cambrai Congregational and later Uniting Church Guild and the Cambrai School Welfare Club.
Reg, supported his sons, with Malcolm moving on to his own property at Naracoorte and Lester staying on the home property at Sanderston.
In 1981 Reg and Edna moved into a new home on the property, as Reg did not wish to leave the land on which he had lived all of his life.
Edna died on the 16 October 1985 and Reg died on 11 October 1991, both being buried in the South Rhine Cemetery.
